I was reading a recent issue of Motor magazine and came across an advertisement for a product called "Steel Seal". It claims to seal blown head gaskets and cracked heads without engine disassembly. Has anyone used this product with any success and would the pros recommend these types of quick fixes? I have always felt that if they can stop-up a leak it could also clog-up other properly functioning internal parts. Thanks for any replies...

This product is apparently poured into the radiator to allow it to run through cooling system. I agree that it probably won't perform as the manufacturer claims it does. I just wanted to find out if anyone has used this product, on a Mercedes or any other vehicle?

This class of product works in such a way as to build up around tiny passages such as leaks, thus sealing them off from leaking further. Unfortunately as you suspected, it also starts closing off thin passages such as radiator tubes, reducing cooling effectiveness.

The only real use for this product is to stop an expensive leak just before resale of a car, or as tkamiya said, to squeeze a few more miles out of a car that nobody cares about anymore.

I never have and never will be a fan of chemical fixes for a car.
