124 rear suspension - tie rods
At what point should the tie rod links be replaced? The bushing "looks" good, and the ball joint boot is good too. I cannot feel excessive play, but it is a bit looser than new. How long do these last? Is it worth the $50-60/side to replace now? I have everything apart as part of a suspension rebuild (the thrust, torque, and camber arms and support joint were shot) and would prefer to change if its likely to go bad within 60000 miles/1 yr to save a trip to the alignment shop.
Thanks. |
If they are not bent and not loose, there is no need to replace them.
Mine have gone 233,000 miles and are still straight and tight. Good luck, |
I checked with a mechanic this week, he said the same - they seem to last a VERY long time. That will save some money :)
