Is it possible to change the bulbs in fog lights of a Benz to something of a higher wattage? I recently did this with the fog lights on my other car and really loved the change. Any risk to the wiring? Will a warning light on the dash display go on?

I have seen this done with negative results. It melted the harness on both bulbs and neither one would work until I rewired.

Not exactly the results I was after. Know of any good after-market driving lights that can be mounted to the front of an E class without major surgery?
BTW, I really appreciate the kind efforts that everyone here offers!!! |
When I bought my '88 300 TE, I thought the headlights were very weak. I went up to 80W/100W bulbs, which performed much better and don't seem to antagonize oncoming traffic. However, they cooked both sockets, and both headlamps failed. I replaced them with aftermarket ones for about $5.00 apiece, and have had no probs so far (about 6 months; I've looked, and they are as new still).
I also upgraded my 500 to 80/100W Bright White bulbs; did the sockets too to avoid the inevitable melt-down. So far, I'm glad I upgraded. Regards, Michael '92 500E '88 300TE ------------------ |
I have tried PIAA Super White(80w/100w) on my '92 400SE. I wasn't aware of "wire melting" 'til someone post it. I purchase those light bulb, and thought they were 50w/60w 'til one day I read(ya, finally) the label on the package. However, it didn't melt my wires, and I really love the advantage of higher wattage. It really lights up the road, though not as good as real Xenon, I am still happy with them. :)
