Easy Entry/Exit Not Working on 02 C230

A couple days ago the easy entry/exit feature on our C230 coupe decided to quit working (at least on my memory setting). I've gone the computer to make sure that the feature is turned on, but it still doesnt work. Will I have to take it to the dealer or could there be an easy fix?

Thanks -

Does it remember the settings for the other keys? Or only your key? If it only the one key, you might have a bad one, if it's universal, the IC might have had brain fade and lost its version coding.

The easy entry feature is just a little feature that moves the seat back and the steering wheel up when you are getting in and out. Its not a big deal but its very convenient.

joe - I dont have the memory key dependent, we only use one key and use the 1-2-3 knob to change the memory setting, so I dont think its the key (but I'll see). Anyway its not a big deal and its not worth going all the way to the dealer for, but I was just hoping there would be some kind of quick fix.

Easy entry intermittent

I had a similar problem with my '01 C320. The feature would work about 20% of the time even after repeatedly reprogramming it. After replacing some "module" or other under warranty, it now works about 90% of the time and I'm living with it. I plan to bring up the subject at the upcoming B service and see if there are any improved control units available. One last thing, in the sedans, if the seat is already behind the B post, even if it isn't all the way back, the seat wont go back further even though the column rises. The coupe, having longer doors, may not be subject to this quirk.

I have found that the car can become electronically confused if things do not occur in the order that it expects. I've had a few little episodes with it that were, to put it mildly, disturbing, and in two cases, damned dangerous.

I plan to have s serious discussion with the MBUSA rep over the last two since the dealer just gives his patented shrug and blank look.

My 2 cents:
What I have seen is that if your seat position is too far back, it won't work (by design). Try moving your seat way forward and see if it will work then. Usually the steering wheel will work OK though, unless of course it's already as high as it will go.
I am not sure how far forward the seat has to be for the easy-entry system to work, I believe it may be mentioned in the manual, it is quite far ahead though.

I have a 02 320 Wagon. I thought it had a problem like this untill I figured out that the seat will not move when you put the key in before you close the door. If you wait to put the key in after you close the door the seat moves, but if you leave the door open it will not move untill you start. Mine will also not move back if it is adjusted to far back, If so the wheel moves but not the seat when you go to get out. Seems dumb to me, I figure if it is not at the rear stop it should move.

Easy entry failures

In my post regarding intermittent easy entry action, I should have said that in addition to the seat movement question, that although steering column always rises after shutdown, but only comes back down about half the time. I then have to push the memory button. Another warranty item.
