Why my outside temperature reads too high..

I have always been impressed with the MB engineers perfectionism. -But when it came to my outside temperature i was dissapointed.. It has always read too high. Especially when the car was not moving.

Today i found out why.
The PO or some clever mechanic has stripped it to THE OIL COOLER..!!

That is funny! Why anyone would put it there?

You know that it is supposed to be under the front license plate, mine (91 300E) is is on the lower right as you face the car.
