Firm gear change

Hi there,

Does anyone know of a way to improve the quality of gear shifts? I have an E220, but I have driven other models like the C220 and they all have fairly firm shifts especially when cold. It tends to shift better the harder I drive, meaning gear changes are smoother at higher rev ranges.

My mechanic said that's the way they are and there are adjustments. Is he right?

Thanks!!

Sorry, this is a 1993 model. The C220 I've driven was a 1995. Not sure which transmission they are equipped with. Thanks for you response.

So, it seems like everyone elses transmission shifts smoothly except mine ....and no-one has any ideas or comments to make?

My 95 320 had rough 1-2 shift. Dealer kept saying that it wasn't the transmission fluid. I went ahead and changed it anyway and now it is smooth as butter.

Hope it helps.

My local dealer says the firm shifts are normal. I have read many in this forum who commented on how smooth their gear changes are, so I am curious.

I have changed my transmission fluid and filter some months ago and the mechanic at the time said that there are no adjustments that can be made to smooth out the changes. I'm sure that's not right, hence I'd like to hear from the tech out here as I trust them more!

Thanks
