I would like to ask what the service replacement interval is for the stock coil on a 16 valve. My car currently has 105,000 miles and still runs the original ignition coil. I tune up the car every 10,000 to 15,000 with new cap and rotor and every 10,000 with new Bosch copper plugs and the car runs very well to this point.
Should the coil be replaced at some point? Thanks, Joe |

I do see them fail from time to time. When the coil fails, one of two things will happen. The engine will stop running or the car will die when the accelerator pedal is pused hard. There is not a service interval for anything but the plugs and the valve adjustment (15k)mi.

My 16-valve racecar has over 100k street driven miles and four years of roadracing on the original coil. I've never had any problems with it, but I do keep a new spare one along with a cap, rotor, wires etc in the trailer.....just in case.
