Water Pump Leakage

I discovered recently that every two days , i the radiator light on my dash board comes up and i have to top the water in my radiator.

i have a feeling that my water pump may be leaking and i was wondering if anybody could describe to me the replacement of the water pump seal and if it is a DIY thingy or i have to pass dat on to my mechanic.

IF YOU WANT TO KNOW FOR SURE WHERE THE LEAK IS COMING FROM, PRESSURE TEST THE COOLOING SYSTEM.

AUTOZONE AND OTHER MASS-MARKETERS WILL RENT YOU A PRESSURE TESTER.

YOU PERFORM THIS TEST ON A COOL ENGINE. THE COOLING SYSTEM PRESSURE CAP COMES OFF AND TEST TESTER ADAPTER IS THEN CONNECTED. YOU PUMP IT UP TO ABOUT 15-17 LBS., THEN LOOK FOR WHERE ANY DRIPPING MAY BE OCCURRING.

SOMETIMES YOU'LL FIND THAT YOU HAVE MORE THAN ONE SPOT LEAKING.

WATER PUMPS ARE ALOT OF WORK TO CHANGE OUT, SO BEFORE YOU EMBARK ON THIS, BE SURE THAT'S WHERE YOUR PROBLEM IS.

oooooooooops

unfortunately Mike, wia i am located there are no autozone stores or stores that can have such specialized equipment. So i am stuck with any other suggestions that dont require that tool which u spk of.

Are there any other methods (maybe more strenuous or archaic, but i dont really have an option now do I ) that i can use to diagnose leakage spots, also is there a seal that one can b uy and just fix in to prevent any leakages at the water pump?

thanks guys

Water pump seal leaks usually manifest with drips off the front of the engine under the water pump. Crawl under with a flashlight and shine it up at the pump. If the sight line is clear you should see a weep hole in the bottom of the pump. If it's bad, the evidence should be there. Could be a drip or an accumulation of deposits from the dripping coolant.
