fuel pump relay & gear shifter
I have a 1987 420 SEL. I'm trying to trace down a problem with the cold start system does not work. Does anyone know what relays or other devices are related to this system and where exactly are they located on this car?
Also, I am trying to change the gear shifter from factory to the aftermarket wood shifter. Does anyone know how to do this? I have not been able to remove the black shifter gate. So far I have removed the wood panel, then removed 2 small screws at the top rear of gate and then removed 2 small plastic clips on the front of the gate, but it's still very solid, you can't move it any. (Help) Thanks! |

The engine coolant temp sensor lets the CIS-E computer know that the engine is cold(below 70F) & that info is sent to the fuel pump relay. The fuel pump relay will send signal to cold start injector ONLY When the starter is running for a MAX of 12 seconds.
The console & complete shifter has to be removed to replace the handle.

Go to PartShop or FastLane and look it up. There is a picture of it. It is located near the waterpump pulley. It is a brass plug with a green top or bottom depending, how you look at it. It has a electrical plug going to it.
