Tranny Shift Fix???
 

I have a 300SD with 125K miles in great shape. I have some sifting problems and have tired all of the usual things ie checked the vacuum, readjusted the modulator, adjusted the bowden cable but still get hard 1-2 shifts and flare 2-3 and sometimes stacked shifts. I am wondering if anyone has tried the fix listed on the web site below. It sounds just like the problem that I have and have not been able to cure. After talking with the people I find that the kit is meant to be installed at overhaul but it appears that the shift kit can be installed without removing the tranny. Any comments or experience.

it probably requires that your old valve body be removed for the parts in the kit to be installed. i'm pretty sure it doesn't require dropping the tranny but you'll have to find an indy that is willing to install the kit for you as i doubt that a dealership would perform this service. if it works, it's a good deal because a rebuilt valve body is about $400+.

You mention doing a number of adjustments and checks but nothing about service (new fluid and filter) which I have seen/felt cure shift flair. It is characteristic for Mercedes transmissions to have firm 1-2 shifts, alot of people adjust the modulator to try and get an American shift feel which does more harm than good for the tranny by causing excessive slip and premature wear. Assuming your tranny is not ineed of a rebuild I would do an r&r of the fluid and filter looking for excessive debris, also drain the torque converter put it back together if all looks well, next I would have the modulator pressure adjusted back to factory spec, you could do it yourself if you have the correct tools and then test how it shifts. A shift kit for less than $50.00 with those claims might be to good to be true, you would think Mercedes would have done that from the factory.
