Heated Mirrors, 86 W124
Hi, How do I know if my outside heated mirrors are working and what do I need to do if they are not? Thanks!

No takers on this one?
As far as I know, I need to replace the glass. The heating elements and thermostats are bonded to the back of the galss. Is this correct?

I believe you are correct on the assembly of the unit.
How to tell if they're working, well I'm not sure. I do know that on the 560SEL, if I spritz a little water on the mirror and start the car the centers of the mirrors will be dry in a matter of minutes. The outer edges will retain some water drops. I can only detect the slightest bit of warmth on cold mornings (when I touch the mirror after driving to the office).

Your description of the systen is correct, power is ignition switched via fuse B, thermostats are on the back of the heated glass.
Only real way to check operation is to wait until a cold morning when there is mist on the glass then start up and see it if disappears.
