Line missing on dashboard display....
see pic
Anyone know what to do. It happened two weeks ago, and all I did was restart the car, and eventually it came back. I started the car today since then and it has gone again, and restarting made no difference yet. I don't understand why the line came back by restarting the car, and what the problem is. What type of display is it? LCD, if so I thought that once it goes it never comes back? Appreciate any help. Nick |

It has now come back.
I am not sure if it has something due to the car warming up? Any know what the actual problem is?
Many Thanks Nick |

Well, we don't know what year or model of car this is. And what precisely is the problem? Is it that the "P" is missing? Are you turning the lights on and off?
A little more info...

Blackmercedes
I have a CLK 320 (MY 2000) facelifted model in the UK.
This problem started in Nov 02, as you can see in the picture the black line consists of 4 pixels that occasionaly goes out when you open the door (as the time, temp and mileage come on), when I start the car or during a journey. The pixels are out irrespective of the gear selected, the 4 pixels would not come on. Then sometimes it comes back. So it works sometimes and then sometimes it doesn't. Which makes it very strange. Doesn't make any difference if you turn on or off the lights. Any ideas on what is wrong? Appreciate your time Regards Nick Last edited by barflux; 01-11-2003 at 09:19 AM. |

Ultimately I believe it will need a new instrument cluster. Sorry if there are those out there who would suggest a repair.
If you are good enough at electronics to repair it, I assume you wouldn't even be asking though. This isn't meant as a "slam", I would replace it if it were my car also. Unless you want to wait for warmer temps and see if the LCD's are all operative then. You can have problems with these in cold weather (inop pixels or flickering). At that point you can decide to just put up with the problems if it's only in cold weather, or to move towards a new cluster. Any warranty left? Gilly
