I intend to change the transmission fluid and filter this weekend. I would like to know how much fluid I should add prior to starting the engine to fill the torque converter. Should I fill to the top mark on the dipstick, start the engine then top off?

Start with 4 quarts and then start the engine. That is if you drain the fluid from the pan and the torque converter. Then add 1.5 more and check. Only fill to 10mm below the bottom line on the stick. After you warm the engine and drive at least 10 miles, the fluid should come to the top mark and not beyond.

Thanks Benzmac, I do intend to drain the torque converter. This is exactly the information I was looking for. Sorry I wasn't able to get the parts from the parts shop this time. These parts have been sitting on my garage shelf all summer. I originally intended to do this job last spring.
