W124 Seat heating or not?

A couple of days ago, i took out most of the interiour due to a new stereo install.

Wired to each seat i found a two-pin male plug. and under the carpets in the foot well, i found a coresponding female plug.
I'm guessing this is for seat heating? (Which i miss a lot now the winter is about to come!)

But i have no switch in the center console to turn seat heating on and off..??

What will it take to make the seat heating work?

That single two pin lead under the seats is most likely for the seatbelt latch. On seats equipped with heaters there would be three two pin connectors, one for the seatbelt latch and the other two for the heaters. There are two heater leads because the seat cushion and seat back have separate elements.

While i don't know the part numbers, I'm told it is pretty easy to retro-fit heated seats into most MB models. Also, there are after market companies that will do this for you.

Having had cars with heated seats, I would not own one that doesn't!

An alternative to heated seats are MB sheepskins. I've had them on my cars for the last 19 years. I've used them in the heat and humidity of North Carolina, the frigid winters of Minnesota and the very hot summers of Arizona.

The DO keep you cool in the heat and warm in the cold but you MUST get high quality skins. The cheaper stuff is worse than having nothing at all.

Could you shed alittle more light on the companies that do the retrofits? I'm in Seattle too - and yes, I wish my seats were heated 'cause they get cold, cold, cold after siting in the parking lot at night.

If you know, is the basic wiring already in place? It would be nice if you just had to cut some holes in the console, drop in the factory switches and then add the pads to the seats. If it takes new wiring, I'd imagine that cost a weee bit more to the price tag.

Also, is there any impact on the alternator? The stock alternator is my '95 E420 is 105 AMPs. I can upgrade to the 143 AMP alternator from S420, but that's around $300 for the part. I'm just mentally totaling this up and seeing a possible project cost of a $1000 after everybody gets their labor.

The W124 seat heater is fairly involved (relay, timer, heavy-duty wiring, etc.), and from what I've heard the seat-pads with heating elements are NLA (no longer available), so you have to do the aftermarket route from a tuner like BergWerks (http://www.bergwerks.com).

You basically have to rebuild the seats and it is a PITA, plan on 4+ hrs. per seat (don't ask me how I know).
