a triangle is a must in sweden, if no triangle when doing yearly checkup then no ok for having it on the road !
all cars in sweden must have one, it is a cheap insurance if you have a stop after a bend and place it out on the road at least 300 m before your car sits, and also if you have to change tyre on the car in a place where you shouldn't normaly park,,

Don't forget that a fire extinguisher is a pressurized container. If there's some major failure of the container, you wind up with a hell of a lot of pressure escaping in a very short period of time. Similarly if the plane experiences a pressure loss, the relative pressure differential between the contents of the extinguisher and the outside environ ment will increas eand the result is the same. To the laypeople this is known as an explosion.

I doubt any airline would allow a passenger to bring any pressurized containers on board. too much of a risk.

Talking Benz fire exting. and firstaid boxes

I don't have the fire ext. in my C180, but I do have the first aid box. How long does the medical stuff last in the rear shelf exposed to the very hot and direct Summer sun? Mine looks like they are originals, so at least 8 years old! Can I get replacements or should I buy the aftermarket stuff in the stores which do not look so comprehensive? Saw they cost about A$25. Wonder if it will fit into the small space.....will have to do a measure first. How about the fire extinguishers? Will they have such a long unused life in the car? The direct sun is only for about an hour each day in Summer, but the heat in the car can reach 50+ Celcius for hours. I do have the home fire extinguisher which is A$39 at the stores, will these be recommended?

If you need to travel with oxygen, I think you're allowed to bring them on the plane IF the tanks are airline approved.

Regarding the triangles:

1) the triangle that has the top flip up or down can be ordered from the dealer, try Tom Hanson at Caliber Motors (1.800.CALIBER) .

2) the older W124 triangle can be had from Rod at Potomac German Auto in St.Augustine, Florida, you will need the hold-down clip again order from Tom Hanson.

3) Even with Tom's connections, no way to get the extinguishe here from the dealer.

The hold down clip is part number 140-890-00-14 and can be ordered at your local dealer. It retails for $4-5 I think. The triangle itself is 140-590-02-12 but I'm not sure if they can still be ordered.

ke6dcj,

Can you please take a picture how you installed the triangle/Clip. The back of my trunk liner has the form for the triangle but no holes...

Thanks in advance

Remove the liner and you'll see holes already in the trunk structure underneath.

Check out the link below. Mine is EXACTLY the same but with a liner.

I have the MB halon extinguishner in my Euro 500SE .I am on the local volenteer fire dept here and asked the cheif about it. he said the law now reads to the effect that no new halon devices can be manufactured in the U.S. or imported or refilled at least by a private person ,but that any made before the law can be used or sold. You can sometimes find them on ebay. They are very effective on auto engine fires and were widely used in aircraft, but can be somewhat dangerous to use by anyone but a professional fire fighter and there are claims being made that halon damages the ozone layer ...........

Earlier this year I brought back from Germany a factory MB fire extinguisher and bracket from a 126 coupe for my 560SEC, in my luggage on board an American Airlines flight. There was no problem and certainly my baggage was x-rayed multiple times before and during transit (flight transfers).

I purchased it from Marc Van de Velde in Belgium, who runs the largest MB wrecking yard in Europe. It's about 3 hours' drive north of Paris.

Attaches in the factory stock location directly in front of the driver's seat.

Cheers,
Gerry

I can get the halon fire extinguishers and triangles sent to me from Germany...all new stuff and reasonable. In fact I have one new extinguisher for sale now in the classifieds. E-mail me if anyone is interested.

I also have several new Euro W124 EPCs, latest version as of 5/2003 coming too (has the AMG E60 and Limited car parts on there!as well as about 40 other W124 versions)...I sell all but one and burn copies if folks want them.
