another 126 console question

well i'm down to the switches in the console piece around the shifter. once i got the right things apart the console shifter plate just lifts out.

but now i can only lift the plate very little due to the wiring harness for the switches. so how do the switches unhook from the shifter plate. i'm leary about trying to unhook the wiring cause it is 14 years old and they look a bit brittle.

also what is that aluminum looking housing i see under the front part of the consol.

thanks for your help

I believe that the window switches just snap in. Be careful though!

The "aluminum looking housing" is the SRS control unit. Don't mess with it.

Craig

Each switch group has its own connectors. They come off with a little bit of effort.

The easiest way to get the switches out is to disconnect the connectors, grasp each switch by their short side and squeeze while pushing up. This will enable the switch to pop up from the wood.

People also pry them out from the top, and they will come out, but you have a very high probability of chipping the wood.

The aluminum housing is probably the shifter housing.

The easiest way to do this is to leave the switches in the plate and remove the connectors from the switches by using a slim plastic strip to slide in and twist, the connectors come off relatively easily. Once the plate is free it is much easier to replace the switches.

Matt.

thanks guys

once again the forum answered my question. i probably would have never thought about pulling the connections off.

my moto is: when in doubt use brute force and ignorance. kinda the bigger hammer method. :D
