head torque ?
What is the final torque spec for a 1971 220, 115.920 head gasket ?
I got the head gasket from fastlane and the spec's are in german and rather confusing. Does this kind of a gasket need to be retorqued after the engine is warm ? Thank you, Daymon |

The best info comes with the head gasket! On the early engines like yours, MB always recommended hot re-torque.
The 12mm bolts are torqued in three stages cold; 40, 60, & 80nm. Hot torque is 90nm. You can multiply by 0.7 to convert to ftlbs if needed. The 10mm head bolts torque in three stages as well; 20, 40, 50nm & the hot torque is 60nm. Never put pressure on the cooling system until the HOT torque is completed. Make sure to follow the torque sequence starting in the middle of the cylinder head, also lightly oil the bolts.
