My rear console vent leaks cold air when closed is there an adjustment and where
94 S350

Mine does the samething...I would like to know also.

Well, excuse me, but the W124s DO have rear vents. Just move your front seats all the way to the front and you should see a BIG airvent at floor level under EACH seat, which keep rear passengers comfortable with hot air in the winter (for models equipped with the automatic A/C system, like the one standard in the U.S.).

With the regular Euro A/C system you can even send COLD air thorough those vents, and even select compressor cold air to the right footwell and hot air the left (or viceversa).

Well, excuse me, but the W124s DO have rear vents.
 

True but it's not quite the same as having adjustable vents like the W140s. In comparison I still think the W124s "solution" is rather low brow (this is what cars that cost MUCH less than MBZs do for their rear passengers.

Can the W124 rear passengers choose to open, close or aim their cold/hot air?

And now back to the original question. Remove the false bottom from the center storage compartment( beneath the armrest)and you'll find the control cable for the rear vent. That's where the adjuster is. Total time is about ten minutes. Good luck

Picking up again on the issue of the rear vents on W124s:

It must be remembered that the W124 was and still is almost the "bread and butter" line up for Mercedes. The 190s/Cs is their bargain line and, of course, the S-class is the ubber wagen.
Forget about the A or V classes, those are NOT Benzes at all.

Then, the standard rear vents on the W124 are remarkable, taken into account that the best selling models for this line were the 200/200E/230E/220E, and originally were not even equipped with power windows or locks to begin with, much less an stereo, an electrical antenna, power seats, sunroof, tinted windows... et.al

And, considering the S-class rear vents, they are insignificant teasers compared to the rear A/C controls which you could order optionally on all W140 models (I think the S600 had this system standard in the U.S.).

Thanks for making me feel better about my W124! Actually I have to admit that I've been a bit "down" on my car. Upon purchasing my 92 400e I wasn't aware of all of the lack of attention to interior details that I've become accustomed to after years of driving a 92 Q45.

Sorry about further arcing this thread from it's original direction.

I made the adjustment to mine last night. As usual, the information on this thread is accurate...It took less than ten minutes to adjust and no more cold air freezing the Kids.

I tried to do the adjustment and I was unable to find the screws to remove that "false bottom". Can anyone help please?!

There aren't any screws, far as I know - just get a small screwdriver, or a coathanger with a very small hook on the end - get up under one end of the panel and lift. I think it's held down with velcro or something.

You do need to turn these vents off during the winter, as only cooled or ambient air comes through these vents - no heated air, far as I know.
