I have a 1987 190e 2.3 16v and am wondering what is the best path to better performance and reduced maintanence. My choices "i geuss" are to rebuild the 2.3 16v which currently has less than 95,000 or do an engine swap with a newer MB motor (if I can find one) Do you know if I can transplant say a c220 kompressor engine or something else into a 190 chasis.

i don't know much about the c220 kompressor engine, but there are apparently a number of options for significantly improving the power of your 16v engine -- primarily increasing the displacement to 2.5 - 2.6 liter, new pistons, valves, crank, etc. I would investigate that route, first (Bekkers, Renntech?, AMG (may no longer be available)...there may be others.) I have heard of these engines producing up to 300hp (probably not street legal) but lower outputs may be more street-friendly.

Why do you want to do the motor over...is it leaking/tired/broken? Or do you just want more power and are reluctant to modify a 90k motor?

Please let us know what you want to do, and we'll do our best to offer some cost-effective advice.

I also have a 16v and thirst for more. The cool thing is my engine is blown up right now. I am thinking of the possibilities.

I've know a guy who put a 3 liter 24 valve six in his 190e. I think it was a CIS-E injected engine from a 300ce. Any ways I know that quite a few "enthusiasts" have put the dual cam six in the 201 chassis without too much trouble. For a killer street car you want a powerplant that makes lots of torque.
