'89 560 Sel
Well, I did it.
Just purchased a '89 560 SEL for 5500$. Very Clean,138K, timing chain and guides have been changed at 116K at the dealer. Charcoal with gray leather. Have all records. Rear suspension seems to work ok. Has not run for about 8-9 months. A/C flap motors seem not work, have cold but no heat comming from the right places. Seller will fix. Rear Shade inop. I am not sure but the lower engine cover (like on 124 body) is not there. Do 126's have that? Could use new tires. Small leak from the where the hyd. pump for susp. is. I have some , either exhaust gasket, or maybe rocker arm noise, or lifter noise. Clicking like the valves would be out of adjustment. However no noise during initital start, while cold, then the noise comes and remains same. I think the next step will be to peek into the valve train and see. I hope nothing major. I am used to to sound of 103 and 104 engines all my life, never had a V8. What do you guys think? Did I do ok? My point is, thank you for this wonderful forum. I read about the car and its problems, called the dealer and verifed the timing chain. Then I bought it. I was scared before. This has always been my source of help when I needed it on my other MBcars. I will be back ( I am sure with more ?? once I take delivery).

The clicking is prob worn rocker arms or possible worn cam lobes, hopefully the later.
*Could* possibly be a worn a bad exhaust manifold. Here are some old threads on the subject: Ticking 1 Ticking 2 My '91 SEL ticks when cold and warm. Have not yet diagnosed the problem. The chain/guides needs to be changed within a year, so will have it looked at then -- hopefully the rocker arms. |
