Strange window problem

When pass. side window is 3/4s of the way down it makes a matalic sound and the window jumpes slightly.I removed inside door panel to check the motor and regulator teeth and all is o.k Looking at this area all is operating smoothly.I can not see any problems with both tracks and cannot pinpoint where this problem is.I did however notice scratches on the outside of the window on the door handel side.Very confused! 1989 420 sel

Your tag only slightly tells us what car you have...we need more specifics...;)

Look at the teeth in the section of the regulator that the small gear is in contact with at around 3/4 way down. You should find the worn out teeth there.

Also check the plastic piece of the sliding jaw. You'll need to run the window further down with the inner panel off. Possible the rivet/stud portion has come loose from the plastic and is pushing the window outward yet retaining enough pressure to run the glass up/down.

Checked all of the teeth on the motor and the regulator and all are in good condition.

MIKE If that is the case, how do i replace it? And is there one on each side?

MikeTangas 12-09-2002 07:20 PM

There is one plastic piece per window. As for replacement there are two options, you can buy just the plastic slider for something like $6.00 and then repeen the rivet (PITA) or you can get a complete regulator which should have the plastic already swaged on and replace the regulator (still a PITA).

Tight working quarters, and when you get the lift arm unbolted, watchalo, as the arm is spring loaded. It slams home with authority. Don't ask how I know.
