Hello,

I have a 1988 300E W124. I've finally confirmed that I have a clogged exhaust - I loosened the screws on the exhaust manifold, and some exhaust came out from the gap between the manifold and the head. Although it's very noisy....however, I've regained power!! My car is so much quicker now (almost like when it was brand new).

My question is: How do I know where the clog in the exhaust is (so that I can replace that part)? I've heard that the clog can be anywhere, the cat, muffler, even the exhaust pipes.

Will it be a good idea to remove the whole system and just replace the whole thing with a straight pipe going from the manifold (header) to the tail pipes?

Please help! Thanks.

Thanks for your prompt reply. Do you think it's the main cat (under the car) or the pre-cats (connected directly to the headers)?

Thanks.

Either and or both can clog. I have seen used ones that are facotry parts. You might want to send in a Parts Request and see if we can get you a used unit. You would need the front pipes to the back of the cat. Thanks.
