clutch is busted need help
I have a 1987 190E 2.3-16V i recently got in the car about an hour ago and the clutch will not even engage. The pedel goes all the way into the floor with no feel whatso ever and it will not come back on its own i have to reach in and pull it back. I have no idea what the problem could but im stuck out at college and winter break is coming in 5 days any suggestions would be helpful I have heard it may be pressure plate throw-out bearing or cable or the spring any ideas please submit thanks!

How cold is it there?
You have a hydraulic clutch, sounds like you are low on fluid possibly - feed off the brake resevoir, check your brake fluid. I ask about the temp bacause I once had a hyd clutch that wouldn't come back up once the temp dropped below minus 25*F. The fluid sort of gelled on me, and my mashing the clutch with the gelled fluid tore a seal. Lost my clutch completely coming over the Vail Summit - speed shifting all the way from there to sunny So Cal.

Could be the clutch master cylinder or slave cylinder for the clutch. It is a typical wear item on these cars.

Agree with Mike.
Check the fluid level first. Top culprit. Having a shared reservoir for the brakes and clutch sets you up for this. As the brake pads get low, the fluid level drops, and the clutch stops working. The clutch feeds from higher in the reservoir, so the brakes continue to work. Otherwise it is almost certainly the slave. Slaves have a much higher failure rate than masters, in my experience. Mike's 'gelling' problem was likely the result of frozen water accumulated in the slave. The clutch fluid should be bled clean periodically to prevent this and other related failures. This is a hydraulic problem. Definately not the pressure plate or T/O bearing, and there is no cable involved.
