Passenger Air Bag

I have a rattle behind the cover of the passenger air bag, I'm assuming it probably the screws on the air bag mounting. How do you remove the cover to check the screws?
Thanks, timreid

pass air bag

Remove the lower panel, does that also include removing the lower front facia panel to gain acces to the air bag mounting screws? I've never removed the passenger dash panels, what to do it right. Thank You, timreid

If you are trying to remove the airbag, I would first recommend that you disconnect the battery. You don't want that thing to accidentally deploy while you're attempting to remove it. Next, look up under the kick panel on the passenger side. You will see a deep vertical hole. Use a 10mm socket w/extention to remove this bolt and the airbag w/cover will then slide out of the dash.

timreid,

There really are no air bag mounting screws behind the airbag. There are, however, screws that can be adjusted inward or outward that regulate how far the airbag recesses into the dash. There are also some airbag bracket screws back there that could be loose as well.

Have you checked the 10MM retaining bolt to insure that is tight ?

I'll check that 10mm bolt tomorrow, if it's tight, then all I have to do is loosen that bolt to remove the air bag and will this also give me access to the mounting bracket?
Thanks again, timreid

timreid,

Yes, remove the long bolt securing the airbag and then work the airbag out of the dash. You will then see the mounting brackets referred to above.
