need part # for wire from distributor to Ign. module.

I can't get my 450sl to fire at all. I put a new coil in it new ballast resistors. I looke at the wire that leads from the distributor to the plug on the Ignition module and the insulation is cracked and bare wire is showing in a few places. Alos the plug end on the module is falling apart. Could this be the problem? If not how do I test the module. I have voltage going to both terminal on the coil.
I hooke a battery charger up to the battery. could this have blown a relay?

thanks,
jmdunn

no ignition

Please update me on the fix to your igition problem.

I have a 76 450 that I'm having a similiar problem.

Several months ago I steam cleaned the engine compartment. Wouldn't start after that. Messed around for 45 minutes on a 80 degree day and it suddenly started (something dryed up). Not a problem again until the other week when I left it outside at the airport for a week (normally it's parked in heated garage). Car had no ignition. I noticed the wire from the ignition box to the lower part of the distributor was in very poor condition with numberous cracks and chaffing to what appeared to be the core. While trying to do a quick repair I noticed this wire has an inter-core wire with insulation and a second layer of wire around it. I tried wiring the inter to inter with one wire and outer to outer with another. It seemed to fire just a bite, but never started.

Anyone please. We both appear to have the same problem.

Is it possible to re -wire this using the existing ends and soldering and sealin two new wires?

I tried a two wire patch to get the car home. Didn't work, but after I trailered the car home I noticed another very bad spot in the old wire at the distributor plug end.

I just installed a new bosch wire for about $50.00.

It seemed as if the car started before I got the key turned. I use to have to crank for a second or two.
