190e Diff between Fed and Calf ECU's?
I was wondering if there were any major differences between the Federal and California ECU's (005 545 94 32 and 005 545 80 32 respectively) that would prevent either one from interchanging and operating properly (smog aside)?

The difference is OBD (on-board diagnosis), the federal version doesn't have much if any OBD. All California cars after 1988(before ODB2) must have built-in diagnostic capabilities.

So, then either one will "work"??
The reason I'm asking is that I live in Arizona and I have a California 190e 2.3 and suspect the computer. However, the only know good one I might have access to is from a 190e with Federal emissions. |

I heard/been told that the CIS computers rarely fail or are a source of problems.
