I live in Virginia and am looking to purchase a 94 or 95 E320 over the next few months, not in a hurry, and will consider cars anywhere in the US. Are there any emission system items unique to California or other western states that may cause trouble or poor performance?

By 94 most emmisions systems were the same.

On the E320 the 95 might eliminate the chance of the defective wiring syndrome and the early throttle assy problems.

You have to go beyond the 95 model year to avoid the wiring problem. I just worked on mine today. I'ts the first time the wiring has been moved on this car. I watched the wiring insulation turn to dust before my eyes!
