Update:
I had the rad replaced as there was adefinate blockage, all the coolant drained and a new cap and expansion tank (old one had some fractures) Oh, and new hoses too. Theres no more oil getting into the coolant anymore. I assume it must have been ATF or engine oil getting in thru the rad. Very odd, but now its fixed. Thanks for all your help ! ------------------ Brian Drought 1991 300CE http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~drought/ ICQ: 2180069 |

Having read the above I am trying to read between the lines and determine which exact engines have the perpensity to develop head gasket problems. I gather the 104 dohc 24v is on the list. What about the 103 12v? Now are these oil into water or water into oil or compression leakage problems? After the gasket is updated are the problems over or is this inherrent with engine design? Possibly
the blockage in cooling system and resultant over heating may accelerate these problems. Our 88 300e 5spd 144k km had a head gasket done on a warranty early in its life.. should we start watching for trouble again? Which if any of the newer engines would one avoid for similar problems? Any comments appreciated, Sydney. [This message has been edited by sydney (edited 09-26-1999).] |
