blower brushes-where to buy?
 

I have an 89 300 se. I am in need for a new set of blower brushes because my heater does not blow as it should. Can anyone tell me where I can find a set of brushes to replace the old ones?

make sure that you determine the code (stamped on the brushes) before buying. My brushes (201) were VERY soft,high conductance made with pitch. The only place making repalcement was in India! This is important because the resistivity and other stuff are precisely engineered,and you will burn out the collector with the wrong brushes.

If I pull the brushes and see a code. How can I determine what kind to replace with? I have found an electrial generator shop that has said if I broght the old ones to him, he would try to match them. Do you think this is the best bet? Should he be able to tell me what kind to get?

I would think that a shop like that could help you, but really doubt he coud find the replacement. Search google "collector brushes". I found a site explaining all the codes. BTW, nobody could help me and Bosch rep flat out refused saying all they can do is sell me the new motor. :mad:

Contact this fellow ... according to some old posts he might have the brushes you need. The 124 brushes have "M41" stamped on them, but I'd imagine the 126's are the same, at least around the same year as my Benz ('91). Gluck...:p

You can order brushes from MB for your specific blowers. I am sure the guys at fastlane can get them for you too.

Blower motor: This climate control system operates the blower continuously
whenever any button except OFF is pressed. Consequently, after 80-90,000
miles, or 5-6 years, the heater blower motor brushes usually wear down and
no longer make good contact with the commutator. This is generally
evidenced by a delay of several minutes before the blower starts or it
suddenly starts when you hit a bump or hit it with your hand. A new blower
can be expensive, so it's worthwhile to remove it and install new brushes.
The brushes are fairly soft and can't be purchased from Bosch. (Don't use
power tool brushes - they are too hard and will cut a groove in the
commutator.)
I have a manufacturer who custom makes the correct motor brushes to fit

Amen, Greg! However, Bosch also told me that the reason they do not sell brushes for blower motors was because the wiring got thinner (???!!??) with age and would burn out in time.

I don't understand that. Where does the copper go? What is he talking about? Is he talking about the commutator (that I can see)?

He probably is talking about the commutator. I believe brushes are formulated with a bit of abrasive. Hence the loss of metal.
