This is the $110 junkyard 83 240D Engine. i disassembled her today. the disassembly went very well, and the Bores miked at 3.58" (right off 3.581) and everything came apart well and looked good. The bores were pitted a little from rust.
Then when loading the block into my car so i could have a friend repeat the measurements, the bolt hoding the chain to block slipped through a chain link and the block fell about a foot, its fall broken by the hoist leg. No machined surfaces were scratched. What are the Implications of the dropped block. Should I worry that I put a warp on it or deviation or something? |
Look closely at the area that hit first, if there is any question have the block "magna-fluxed" to see any cracks. Also have the block honed & if the pitting is still there have new sleeves installed. Don't make a mistake & have low compression or oil consumption.

On the flip side, if the block looks OK I think it would be fine. These things were built out of some tough stuff.
