What exactly does it do??? No noise at all???? Tell us everything you know about this condition...

Starter turns over, no unfamiliar noises. No clicking, all sounds good, just not starting. Could it be the fuel pump?

The car has 162,000 miles on it, and I have no records of recent work. Could it be a fuel filter problem and if so are they hard to replace.

Is it possible that it is the neutral safty switch that is causing the problem? I did drive the car the night before it started doing this at around 80mph for around 45 mins.

I had the battery tested, full charge, and tried to start the car with it in neutral, still nothing. What would be an indicator of the starter being a problem?

I also have a 1985 380SE and my car was doing the same thing. Not to say I'm certain of the problem but it could be your fuel compensator (warm up regulator). I don't drive my car in the winter so I never knew the part could be bad. A month ago my car would start up with rough idle untill the car warmed up, then fine as normal. About two weeks ago the temperature dropped to 0 and the car wouldn't start and when it finally did, it shut right down. A few days later the temperature rose to about 45 and the car drove fine for days. Yesterday temp was 55, car fine. Today 32 and no start. I'm putting my car back in the garage till spring as I have beater to get around in and also the part is $420!! I think I'll replace it then. Hope this gives you some insight
