M103 breather hose
I can't seem to get my new breather hose installed. It's the one from the idle control valve to the intake manifold. The cold start valve installs into it. I've searched this site and the best thread I could find is:
Hose from idle valve to engine. However, I don't seem to be able to guide the new hose on. Do I try to install it from the top or bottom side? I've loosened the harness tray and even started to loosen the fuel distributor, but that didn't seem to help. Any ideas? Thanks

Mike,
it really is a pain to install! I suppose, start valve and old hose are removed. Clean the metal tube with a rough rag. Do some silicon oil on the tube and the new hose. Use one or two flat screw drivers or small pry bars to hold the hose in position and apply pressure towards the head. Take care to not cut the new hose with the flat srcew driver. To answer your question: work is done from the top. Good luck, bis denn, Christian 1989 300TE |

I am with Chris on this one!
Don't remove the fuel distributor. Do get the harness tray out of the way and just go for it! Since you are already there, I suggest you change the other hose (to the engine) if haven't already done so.
Good luck! ![]()

For "the other hose", are you talking about the really short one that looks like it goes from the valve cover to the intake manifold? I've already replace the hose on the other side of the idle control valve, mine was in terrible shape. Someone had tried to fix it using electrical tape! I've also replaced the hose from the air cleaner to the intake manifold, the vacuum connection on mine was torn.
When I ordered those three hoses, I noticed that there was a fourth breather hose, but didn't know where it was.

Here's an update. I was able to install it from above, but only after I decided not to reuse the metal clamp from the previous hose. Got it on and used a zip tie to hold it on. Mercedes calls it a loom tie.

I just went through this the other day. Replaced both of the hoses that connect the ICV to the cold start injector and also to the throttle body.
I did remove a few fuel lines (cyl 1,2,3) and one other one, I believe. Not a big deal to get them off safely, have a rag handy for the 2oz of fuel that will spill out. Not a big deal to get them back on, the threads are pretty stout. The hose to the cold start injector was rock hard and was connected to the intake with a "crimp" hose clamp thingy. What a pain. I replaced the "crimp" clamp with a regular MB hose clamp, Works fine. I don't see any way to replace these hoses without pulling fuel lines, etc. Just keep disconnecting things in the way. Gentle with old electrical connectors. |

I did mine last year,
Did it from the top, no injectors removal just the hoses and the ICV, it was a bit acrobatic but it worked I used a flat long screwdriver to remove the part of the hose from intake manifold the one which holds the cold start valve. I used the lubricant used for mounting the tires (it is magic on rubber) because i believe it doen't damage the rubber. One tip for the hose clamp was to insert a paper clip in the ends of the clamp to hold it "open". Then put it on the hose and then install the hose with the clamp on the metal pipe and remove gently the paper clip with long pliers. Then install the other hose on the ICV. good luck
