'86 SEC Seats into an '85 300CD

Hello all!

Thought I'd check with the community before I started this project. I bought the interior from an '86 SEC with the intention of putting it into the wife's '85 300CD. I'm pretty sure that the front seats will fit but not too sure about the back ones, yet. I haven't got them yet so I can't measure or check on how they attach.

Has anyone attempted this. The new seats are heated and, of course, powered. Any thoughts about where I should get power from for the seats?

Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks and Happy Holidays!

Ray

Man, they definately wont fit, you are going to have to sell them to me, if they are palomino and leather with buttons that would be great.

just kidding man, they front seats on the SEC frame rails should bolt right in. What you could do is mount the sec seats on your coupe frame rails so you dont have to install the buttons and such. I havent looked into the rear seat, but I would just say take it out and check. I bet its too wide, but let me know. I am just looking for an interior to do it before I start it. I know the front seats will fit though. You could make the two rear window switches do the back rest because you shoudlnt roll those down anyway. Let me know.

If it turns out they don't fit, someone will get a really nice set of seats. I ordered the Leatherique re-dye kit for them the other day to freshen them up before I put them in. I've invested (i.e. spent) too much on them and raised the wife's expectations too high to not put the seats in.

You know what they say if it doesn't fit...force it. If it still doesn't fit get a bigger hammer. At least, that's what the "technicians" say at the Cadillac store where I work.

Happy Holidays!

Ray,

They should fit. You might have to get creative with the brackets. My friend has put them in a CD before from an SEC he is a mercedes mechanic though. I am inline after another person for some seats.

Let me know how all that leather care does because I need to redo mine. I used saddle soap.

Great!

I'm happy to hear that it has been done before. I was worried about the size of the rear seats more than anything. I'm pretty sure that I can manufacture some kind of adapter to anchor them back there.

Did your friend wire up his seats for power and heat? Do you know where he took his power source from?

What a great place this forum is!
