a warning.regards jammed ig switch. i recently posted a question as to regards ig key would not turn. no-one (inc 2 merc dealers) told me that the electric socket at the back will not come out unless the key is at pos1. i have sawn through the steering lock as advised . i have the switch hanging down and i now have to drill it out. i would have done this when the switch was insitu if i had known.so i am now totally pissed off(and am going on holiday) kc

It is very easy to free ones self from this position. Using a carbide wheel cut through the three screws that hold the electrical portion to the steering lock. The plane of the blade should be set at a right angle to the screws which you can't see. You will cut first through the outer skin of the ignition switch. If done cleanly the switch will even be reusable. (through now with three slots in its base).

dear moderator i like your answer (very easy)?? for a start there is no room as the wiring loom is tight to the switch to get a grinder in there. i have made a million cuts with a half hacksaw blade and finally cut the bloody switch in half. also there is what appears to be some sort of round bar in the way. still the deed is done.

Yea a hacksaw will do fine. And now that you have cut it to pieces, can you see the proper way? Switches are cheap and fail quite often. So put it all back together and you give the advise next time.
