Greetings,
The knob that switches on the headlights has an small round orange dot on it. Is that supposed to light up when the fog lamps are turned on when you pull the knob out? I pulled the knob all the way off and didn't see a way to place a bulb in there. Phil |

It might depend on which model year you have. Our '87 300E has the orange dot, but it doesn't light up. I think the dot on my mom's '91 lights up, but i can't remember for sure.

I believe it is model year dependent. The reason for the orange spot is the knob has been replaced and that is all that is available now.

Have someone stand behind the car when you pull the knob out. You may just ahve a rear fog light. I find that these are best used so that people can follow you to tell you that your brake lights are messed up.

I see by your profile you have a 1988 300E, on my 1998, the 1st detent is orange for the fog lights, running lights, and the 2nd detent is the back fog light.

The front fog lamps work, I was just curious as to whether or not the orange dot on the know should light up when the fog lights are active. I think Benzmac is correct, the knob may have been replaced.
Thanks Phil |

On my 190E, I noticed that the orange light only comes on if I pull the knob out and THEN turn it clockwise to turn on the fog lights.
It doesn't go on if I turn first and then pull. (regardless, the back fog light doesn't work...just the orange interior light goes on) :-) You might wanna give that a try though. Satinder. 84 190E 94 C220 |

Actually the orange dot only lights up on when REAR foglight is on. However, it won't light up with just front foglight(since you have '88, your foglights should be yellow, unless replaced).
Or maybe it's model year related like someone mentioned above. However, just a note, my friend's '86 DOES light up. It's all stock, never replaced, Canadian model..... Happy Motoring..... Andy Kuo '92 400SE 71,118 KM |
