Just bought an awesome 300GE. In the first 1000mi it has used a quart of oil. I read that the valve stem seal problem was cured in 88 or 89.I will continue to monitor the oil consumption. Is there another cause or would stem seals cure it? The truck only has 69000 mi on it. Could extreme hills during off road use cause oil to be used? I know the oil pan is baffled. Shouldn't that prevent the oil from going anywhere. It has good oil pressure even at idle on the steepest hill. ------------------ 90 300GE 5sp 95 740iL |
Try having a new set of V/stem seals installed. The 1990 & later guides should be the latest version.

Your original valve seals, even if the brown 'viton' composition, would become stiff after this many years. Changing them would not be unusual at all. Not a big deal at all. Also a good time to reseal the cam cover at this time if it is leaking.
