'94 E320 SRS light doesn't come on
 

I thought I'd check the bulb to start with ... disconnect the speedo cable and pull the dash.

However, when I turn the key to the 1 position the ABS light comes on for a couple seconds and goes out.

When I turn the key to position 2 all the warning lights come on except, the ABS light which was on, the SRS light and the check engine light.

Is this normal for the ABS and check engine lights?

Is the ABS is acting the way the SRS light should be? Could the SRS be hooked up to the wrong light? I don't have a wiring diagram. What wire # or color should I check for on these two lights? Help!

Robby, if the instrument cluster (IC) has been removed before, it's possible that the bulbs could be crossed up. When you turn the key to position 2, all the lights should come on. The SRS light will go out after a few seconds, but the others will stay on until the engine is started. If you know the bulbs are OK and you want to check to see if anything's connected wrong try this. Dis-connect a front wheel speed sensor ( easy to get to ) and drive the car. The ABS warning light should come on, right? You won't find that test in any MB literature, but it will verify whether or not the ABS bulb is installed correctly. Try it, and post your results. BTW, most of the wires at the bulbs in question are numbered. look closely.

Thanks for your advice. And Yes the dash has been out, though I didn't remove it, and I don't know what was done. I'll start with your ABS test and go from there.

Good Do you know how to dis-connect the wheel speed sensor? It should only take a matter of seconds and no tools are required.You just need to locate one of the connectors.

Okay on the speed sensors.

Fixed it.

The check engine socket (wire numbered 1) was hanging loose in the dash.

The SRS light (number 3) was plugged into the ABS socket.

The ABS socket (wire number 4) had no bulb in it.

Now you need to figure out why the ABS bulb was removed.

After I fixed the wiring and bulbs, I unplugged the speed sensor in front of the battery, drove the car down the drive and the ABS light came on as it should. And the SRS light cycles on and off as it should. :)

I'll shortly find out if there is continuous malfunction with the ABS system ... maybe that is why the bulb was removed.

Okay, the ABS light stays on. The alternator voltage is normal and I removed and visually inspected the circuit board of the ABS control unit and there is no visible indication of damage. I'll check the archives to see if there is a DIY way of troubleshooting this.

In the front they bolt onto the front spindle at the bottom of the shocks. Two allen head bolts hold them in place and you'll see coaxial cable running from the sensors.

I have a bad ABS pump. Maybe I can find used one at a reasonable price.
