sensor identification on 103.983 motor
Hi,
I have attached an image of the rear top part of the motor on my 88 300E. I am trying to identify these sensors below the blue lines I have drawn on the image. I believe the sensor on the far right is the coolant temp sensor. I have circled one of the connectors as someone looks to have soldered the wire to the connector rather poorly and I believe that it may be causing the sensor to work improperly (poor gas mileage). I assume the replacement sensor does not come with the connector so I would probably have to buy a new connector and splice it in??? Can anyone tell me which sensor is which? Thanks! |

From my parts reference, the furthest to the left is the "Temperature Sensor, Temperature Switch to Cylinder Head, 130 Grad". The middle one is the "Sender Unit, Water Temperature Gauge". The part with the two plugs going into is the "Sender Unit, Continuous Injection System."

Exactly.
The sensor to the right is the coolant temp sensor, which will have a bad influence on your gas milage if it's not working. I just replaced mine. It did not help my poor gas milage problem (which therefore must be caused by something else), but it did help a lot on my cold start problem. It does NOT come with plugs/wiring! Freestyler
