Yup, just as I was explaining to a date how to adjust her headrest last night.... it didn't work!!

Thanks for all the info here in this thread. Now I know where to start to fix it myself this week!

Once you fix it, you'll have to train all your passengers to use the headrest button and resist the natural urge to pull up on the headrest. I'm not sure, but I have a suspicion that these assemblies may break from misuse. Make sure you point out this feature to all new riders.

Folks,

I just purchased the part for my car. It is PN 124 970 01 26 (bottom). Based on Kestas' picture of PN 124 970 02 26 (top), the difference seems to be the amount of "grooves" on the post.

Don't compare the lengths, as these pictures were taken by 2 different cameras at probably 2 different distances.

I'm sure it'll work fine. But for curiosity, once you install the part and before you reinstall the seat back, see if all the teeth on the rack are used to move the headrest down.

Ugh,

Can't get that darn seatback off. I've read every post and know it's possible with some more work. I'll keep at it.

Yes, the back panel is a toughie. Every time I remove mine I feel it's going to break. Keep tugging at the bottom corner until you get it started. The rest is easy. I'll let you know when I have some time.

Taking your advise, I got the back panel off. Got the piece replaced, although the original can be reused now that I've fixed it.

There is a white piece along the top that is held in with a spring. This the piece that the actual headrest locks into. Somehow, it it popped out and I was able to get it back in.

I repaired mine just a few weeks ago after reading the posts on this site. After looking at the assembly more closely, I noticed that it is so flimsy being held by plastic. After I put it all together, I reinforced the white plastic housing for the gearing with stainless steel wire by tying it to the metal bar in the seatback that holds the whole assembly. I wish I'd taken pictures before I put it all together but I was so excited I got it working that I forgot.

speedy300Dturbo: Wow, that's a great site. Did you do that? I wish I had seen it before I fixed my headrest. I can see how the part that holds onto the headrest can also break but the part that broke for me was the gear housing that holds onto the track that raises the headrest. In that repair site you have listed under #6, the part that broke for me was at the bottom of the blue outline in the picture, the part that holds the railing as well as connects to the motor. I guess I could have used a zip tie also but I wrapped that part onto the metal brace of the seat with a wire to reinforce it.

Thought I would share that with those who have that part broken.

This is so incredibly easy it isn't funny. I don't know how anyone could remotely say it is hard to get the back off.

Just undo the two philips screws on the bottom and then just take a flat blade screw driver and go to bottom right corner and where side leather comes to back seam. Pull on bottom back panel to get this seam to open up and then just slide blade of screwdriver up the back.

I had min opened up in less than 15 seconds. one of the easiest things I have ever done on a car, outside of putting gas in.

I disagree 100%. If it's the first time you've done this... and the first time anyone has attempted to take it off the vehicle, it can be VERY DIFFICULT. It does not slide easily.
