W 140 hood doesn´t open

On my ´92 W140 model I have a problem to open the hood. When pulling the lever, the right hood latch opens while the left latch stays locked. I suppose that the cable to the release lever is broken. Has anybody an idea how to open the hood, may be by removing some parts?

Try having a helper push DOWN on the side of the hood that won't unlatch while you're pulling the release handle. Once you get the hood open lubricate the latches with some light spray grease. This should prevent a re-occurrence, in fact it's part of every scheduled maintenance. Good luck

Thanx for your advice, but this won´t solve the problem as the release cable is probably broken.

hi there...

I have read some post regarding this. Do more search and you should find it. If not, let me know and I will try to remeber what I searched and hopefully give you the right pointer.

However, as I remebered, the guy said he removed the indicator lens and get access to the lock via the opening. Although you are suppose to remove the lens by accessing from inside the engine compartment, you can force it out by force.

Once you took the lens out, get a light and try find the cable to the lock, when you do, a pull or something should the job.

As I have said, these have been described in that post. just try find it and do what I said here. If still not help, let me know and I will try search the post for you.

I don't know how you equate the fact that one side unlatches and the other one doesn't with a broken release cable. They both work off the same cable, so obviously it's not broken.
I would try what the first responder to the question stated, the left latch may just be sticky or out of adjustment. If that does no good, then i would remove screw attaching the latch handle and pull on the cable itself.
