Ugly Door Sills on W124

I recently bought a '92 300e 2.6 that is in exceptionally good shape except for the door sills. Each sill has two strips of aluminum tape that is bubbling and peeling up.... it is the first thing I see when I get in the car. My '88 260e doesn't have the blasted strips. I tried removing the tape but it leaves a hard glue residue that nothing will take off.

Has anyone else had this problem and if so, is there a solution? I'm thinking of stripping off the tape and painting the strips flat black to make them more inconspicuous.

Thanks,
John

3M makes an adhesive remover that will work.

It was mentioned on here last week in another thread.

Try the search function. I'm sure you'll find it.

Problem Solved

I found that lacquer thinner takes the adhesive (and scuff marks) off the rocker panels without doing any damage.
