Let me ask a dumb question...how does the ashtray come out of my dash? I'm talking about the whole piece (not the insert that just pulls up), since my wood trim piece split and came off in my hand. I want to glue and clamp the wood back together with some good 3M trim adhesive. (Any helpful hints?)

It's a 1984 300SD and the owner's manual just mentions removing the insert to empty it. I poked around a bit, but I didn't want to force anything. Any help appreciated since I'm currently baffled and I want to fix the wood trim outside of the car, since this is one of the few areas where the wood trim can be removed (hopefully easily). Thanks,

Remove the two phillips head screws at the bottom of ash tray, then pull it out. The wires to the lighter just unplug.
