SRS Light

Hi All,

I have a S500 coupe (w140). The SRS light seems to stay on longer now than it has done in the past. Instead of turning off within a minute, now it stays on for about 5 minutes. Does anyone have the same problem? My parent's S420 (w140) has the same problem. One more question, my MPG gauge is bezerk. Should I just stepp on the gas a tad, it will go to the most inefficient indicator and drop immediately. Just wondering if anyone has had the same problem. Thanks in advance.

Sources of an SRS light are usually a bad OVP or the switch in your seat belt latch.

Thanks, I'll check it out. How do you repair it though?

If it's the OVP, you just pull it out and replace it with the new one.

As for as the seatbelt latch, it's a good question for a technician.

The 140's don't have OVP's. As suginami says, the seat belt buckles are a common cause of SRS malfunctions. You need to check codes though, to determine the cause of the SRS MIL.

Same thing on my SL. SRS light stays on for several minutes. I'm pretty sure it's something with the seat belt, since it used to be that the seat belt unlatched light would be on even if the seatbelt was latched...
