190e decides to dump all oil!

My 1991, for the second time in it's life, has just dumped most of its oil. The first time this happened a few years ago we cleaned it up and had a mechanic go over it and he could not find a reason for the event. Now my daughter has it at school and it has decided to repeat the feat. Has anyone had a similiar experience or any thoughts as to the cause?

Was it full one day and 6 qts. gone the next or has it been a long time since someone checked the level and now the dipstick reads very low?

You say "dumped"? Was 6 qts of oil found on the ground all of a sudden? Not sure I follow exactly what happened?

What I mean is that it was full of oil, driven a few miles and then found with a big puddle of oil under it. My impression is that the oil is being pushed out somewhere under pressure and what is appearing under the car while sitting is what is draining off the engine exterior and from the belly pan. I really don't think this is a leak but a failure of the crankcase vent or some such thing.

Hard to see from here.

I'd find a real tech this time and give him a shot at it.

Yeah, that is what is going to happen this time, the car is about 300 miles from home. The good news is that it is now in a city where they have real Mercedes mechanics.

Thank you for the response.

Case solved. This turned out to be a completely different problem than the earlier incidence. I had changed oil on this car a few days before my daughter took off with it. The previous oil changed had been done by a quick change type place and they had over tighten the drain plug and rounded the head of the plug. I took it back to the shop and they loosened the rounded plug and gave me a new one. Seems that in the process they cracked the oil pan! Lessoned learned about quick lube places.

Seems to me they owe you for one cracked oil pan. Im sure the dealer cost for a new one is not cheap, but then thats why the quick lube oil places carry insurance.

They cracked it they owe you one. Just my opion
