I want to thank you for the great info. My blower motor wasn't working so I followed the steps outlined. I was surprised to find my cabin air filters completely filthy. Just to make sure the motor would turn, I gave it a spin and then turned on the power. The blower worked. Since I had gone that far I decided to change it anyway, since I didn't want to do this twice. My biggest problem was getting the weatherstrip to stay against the bottom of the windshield afterwards. With this kind of help available, I will be able to keep up with the demands of a 14 year old car and not spend my retirement money. Anybody need a used blower with fan?

Do not throw it away. The only thing thast wears out are the brushes. Clean it and change the brushes if they are worn. It is then "rebuilt."

I have a 250D of 1993. (the only thing I knew about cars was to fill it up and that you have to turn the key to get is started).
Did not know where to start to change the blowermotor.
Even with the differences (other kind of rubbers, screws at other places)
you pictures helped me a lot.
I removed the blowermotor on friday and put everything else back in place (cause i do not have a garage and they gave bad weather for the weekend) in about 2,5 hours.
Today I got me a motor with squirrel cage (only 1 in my car) for 40 Euros. It took me 45 minutes to open everything up, putting the motor in and put everything back. (and it works fine).

So once again, Thans alot.

this was a great write-up, thank you so much for sharing this. I was being quoted 7 hours of labour by a professional MB dealership ($85/hr)! I was able to get this done just by following the wiki instructions in less than 4.5 hrs (took my time too). Things came out exactly as described! :)

BTW - I actually ended up lubricating mine with some generic grease and it's been about a month now and the squeak is starting to come back ever so slightly.

I'm probably getting a new blower motor assembly for $380 but wanted to ask first.. is there any particular grease anyone could recommend or is the grease not my issue?

It would be foolish NOT to replace the blower resistor right under the blower motor at this stage. Far easier than going back in. And, I guarantee that the power resistor will fail.

what is the blower resistor part number?

I think it is known as a blower motor regulator, it is electronic and not a simple resistor array.

is this blower motor in the same spot on the w202 model's aswell? or is it near the cabin filter on the passenger side of the car? my car's having blower motor problems as well. But I've noticed on my car if u start banging on the bottom side of the passenger area the vents start blowing air temporarily. let me know if u have any knowledge of these issues with the w202. Thanks!

2nd time around at 270K miles
 

Well, I just completed my second blower motor repair at 270K miles. I think the 1st was at about 150K so this one didn't last quite as long. The first one was a regulator which I replaced and did the brushes at the same time. This one was the motor and the brushes were still good, so I just picked up a used motor from ebay. The replacement motor was fine but one of the squirrel cages was was very out of true, so I pulled that one off and replaced it with one from the original motor. I made a little puller out of stuff I had laying around and I'll photograph it and post it here. I swore when I did the first R&R that I'd sell the car before I did it again, but this time was easier with the great photos. Helped my memory. Now I have heat and defrost again - woohoo!!

that was very well presented, good work. I have a 1990 300TE and the blower is heading south and I hate doing blower motors, just finished one on a 1988 BMW 325iC and then this darn one starts up. I looked my car briefly but now I have much more insite. thanks.....btw..and all of a sudden it hit me, I have wondered why 1 big wiper instead of 2 smaller ones.....no linkage between wiper arms...bigger motor. less moving parts; makes sense i guess....interesting concept

here is my response, my wifes 1990 300TEs' heater blower motor was going bad for some time, squeaking and rumbling until finally the damn thing just stopped altogether. I thought maybe I could get the thing through to the springtime (as it's 20 out now). Replaced the 80 amp fuse for the blower motor but that didn't work and the blower motor will work for a minute or two if you are whipping down the Chicagoland interstates at 70 mph. But still sucks. So, after research I determined that the blower motor is shot (I just replaced one on my 1988 BMW 325iC). Both of these blower motors ran around $300 new. I went to my local U-Pick-It junkyard for the BMW and found a perfectly fine one for $15, installed it and it's fine. Then the MB one went, not 2 months later, I couldn't believe it. So I went last Tuesday and, low and behold, found a 1993 300E with the blower motor assembly still untouched. The reason for scrap (on the Gieco salvage sheet on the windshield was THEFT, both airbags were deployed). Anyway, I had the opportunity to take the blower motor out, so I know how put it back in my car....$15 again....I figure I have saved around $900 between the 2 cars by going to the junk yard and installing these things myself. I must say Behr products suck...Bosch good...Behr crap....I have had to replace the damn heater blower motor on every freaking BMW I have ever owned and I'll be damned if the same thing didn't happen on the first MB I've ever owned....Behr is junk....
