Air bag replacement???

Last Aug I bought my first MB. 87 420 SEL. Great car! At the time I noticed the sticker inside the glove box. It says the drivers air bag needed changing in 1995. Am I driving a time bomb? Will it blow up in my face sometime, or just not deploy in an accident? Should it be changed and if so what should I expect to pay....??

New bags run something like $1,000 or so. No the bag won't go off in your face unprovoked, but may not function in an accident. The true useful life of the bags is still unknown I believe. The bag went off on my 560 properly at the 15 year mark.

The life expectancy was upgraded from 10 years (your sticker) to 15 years at some point. I'm confident the bags will function beyond the 20 year mark, but then again, who am I?

Use your seatbelt. An airbag increases your safety very little when compared to wearing your belt.

MB and BMW are the ONLY makers that have NEVER had a "random" or unintentional bag deployment.

air bag replacement

There was a bulletin sent to MB dealers that the ten year life has been extended to 15, and they provided new stickers. My parts man has never heard of an experation bulletin, but got me the sticker to make me happy. This was on an early 92.

Thumbs up airbags-oem.com has airbags

I found a place on the net that sells used airbags and even repairs srs computer modules and gives a 6 month warranty...

They are used and the prices are so much better....
