Engine 616.912 1983 240D Where is the engine number? There is one number on the driver side of the engine, but I'm told that is the casting number for block. i remember seeing a number cast on the cylinder head, but thats at the shop now..I need this number to order parts!!

Try looking on top of the bell housing flange on the top of the block. Or if you have the service booklet that came with the car it will be in the last page of it.
