I think Anthonyb has nailed it down. Look at the next two pictures. On the first picture of the left underside of the seat, directly above the black plastic cover, you cannot see the teeth of the arm that moves the seat up and down. On the second picture of the right side (side that is leaning, you CAN see several teeth on the right side arm. I think the arms are out of sync, either due to a broken gear on the right side or perhaps the motor jammed up at some point as Anthony stated.

Oh and by the way, I had to raise the bottom of the seat all the way up with the door switch so I could get to the right rear bolt to take the seat out. So there shouldn't be any teeth showing on the right side.

Maybe in the past, one of the cables broke. Some installed a new one, but didn't check to make sure they were sych'd?

Is it the entire seat or just the seat back?
I had a similar problem with my 1987 300E. My problem was the cable for the seat back jumped the track. When I would operate the seat back switch the seat would lean to the center of the car just as you describe. At first the MB tech wanted to replace the cable so he ordered it. Lucky for me the wrong one came in. He lubed my cable reinstalled it and it has been working fine and that was two years ago!!!

I too, need to remove my seat to fix same problem (leaning seat).
What is the short version of "How to remove seat". Thanks for letting me see some of the potential problems to rule out.

Removing the seat if fairly easy. four bolts on the floor. You will have to manuever the seat with the switches. The front bolts come off fairly easily. The rears required me to raise the seat bottom with the switch all the way up to get to the bolts. You need to manuever your socket wrench from underneath the seat to reach the bolts on the back. For the back bolts also use the switch to push the seat as far forward as it will go. Once the bolts are all loose, you have to disconnect some electrical wires. There are two smaller wires that are clipped underneath the front of the seat. Slide them to the left or right so they are free from the metal clips then just pull them apart. Repeat for the second small wire. Now you have a larger wiring harness to disconnect from a junction box attached underneath the front of the seat as well. There are three sockets to disconnect. Use a flat head screw driver and put it in the square plastic eyelet at the top of the longest socket. Pull up and the connector will come right out. The center connector does not have an eyelet so remove the third connector that does have an eyelet first. Now you have room to grip the last connector. If it is difficult to remove, just use the flat head screwdriver again to carefully pry it upward. Now the seat should be completely free except for the rail guide attached to the center shaft hump at the rear floor. Loosen this one and then you can take out your seat. I took mine out by way of the driver's door. Others say it is easier to take the seat out by way of the rear door, you choose whatever is easier for you.

I would also add that the seats are heavy and it definitely goes easier if you have a helper, preventing interior cuts and buggers.

After reading these posts, I pulled my driver seat to look/fix my leaning seat. The left cushion bolster is so compressed I lean to the left, anyway looked at it, didn't know what to do and replaced seat. Can't find right rear seat nut that receives one of four seat bolts. Where did it go?
