PLEASE HELP ME! I AM STYMIED! I am rebuilding a 83 240D with 616.912, engine number 616-011-28-01, 83 B21. The piston are stamped 90.875, 1 in one place and 64 in another place. They do not have a Star on them. The Mercedes Piston spec table is shown at http://www.jersey.net/~rtc/BENZ.html and does not list these pistons. My bore measures at 90.881 or 3.578". Furthermore why did the builder of this engine use 90.875 pistons-what was his rationale? ARE THESE AFTERMARKET PISTONS?
WHAT RINGS DO I ORDER? IF U DO NOT KNOW ANSWER, ANY SUGGESTIONS?

Sounds to me like you will have to go with the next oversized piston and ring set with the rebore to match. If I remember correctly, I think you mentioned in a previous post that the cyliner walls were pitted. Here's yet another reason to go with a new piston set and rebore/resleeve. From the website you put up on the progress of your rebuild, it sure looks like you have a decent 240. Why not put a little extra into the engine rebuild and assure your long term satisfaction with the car?
