Hello,
I have a 1986 560 sl and my problem is that the car drifts across the road . I am constantly correcting the car to stay in the lane. The car has brand new tires and several of the front end linkage that needed to be replaced have been. I know this is tuff to diagnosis without diving the car , but any suggestions would be appreciated. Drew |
The key to a car that tracks straight is a 4-wheel alignment. Even though the rear isn't adjustable it can cause the front to pull. If the car has a correct 4-wheel alignment & still wanders then posssibly the tires have "belt shift". Most good alignment machines are computer based & can give you a print of final alignment.

Thank you for your reply. I did forget to mention that the car just had an alignment when I put the new tires on it. I thought the vagenes might be something in the steering box.Any other suggestions would be appreciaated. Thanks for your help.

It is possible that you have some looseness in the stering box. If it's minor play, that can be adjusted. If there's a lot of play, you may need to look at have the box rebuilt or replaced with a reman. box.
